SARA FITZMAURICE, President

Fitzmaurice founded FITZ & CO in February 1995 to work exclusively in cultural public relations, a unique and specialized field. Through early clients such the United States Pavilion at the 1995 Venice Biennale, the launch of Sean Kelly Gallery, Marlborough Gallery, and Basel Art Fair, Fitzmaurice was able to quickly develop an international reputation for her firm. Priding herself on maintaining valuable relationships with her clients and the media, Fitzmaurice takes a proactive and hands-on approach in managing the strategic public relations campaigns the firm develops and implements on behalf of its clients. Since founding FITZ & CO, she has created and directed high-profile public relations campaigns for some of the most prestigious arts organizations and corporations in North and South America and in Europe.

Prior to forming the firm, Fitzmaurice was the press director at Livet Reichard Company (1993–1994), a New York-based arts marketing and fundraising firm. In addition, she was a senior account executive at Harrington Branstetter, Inc. (1991–1993), a fashion public relations firm. Prior to moving to New York, Fitzmaurice was the director of Jon Oulman Gallery, Minneapolis, which represented international artists. In 1989, Fitzmaurice graduated magna cum laude from Boston University with a B.A. in Art History. She spent a year abroad in London on a work/study program, holding internships in the Sotheby’s press office and at British Vogue. Today, Fitzmaurice is a member of Art Table, the national non-profit membership organization for professional women in leadership positions in the visual arts. She also serves on the board of the Public Art Fund.
