From December 2009 through late spring of 2010, FITZ & CO represented the Madison Square Park Conservancy’s Mad. Sq. Art program in the promotion of its largest and most expansive public art project to date—Antony Gormley’s Event Horizon. Featuring 31 sculptures of the human form placed in and around Madison Square Park and on the rooftops of architectural treasures throughout New York City’s Flatiron District and environs, the U.S. public art debut of British artist Antony Gormley marked the first installation to expand beyond the Park’s perimeters in the 7-year history of Mad. Sq. Art.
Prior to installation, FITZ & CO worked diligently to develop and implement a proactive media campaign to successfully raise awareness about this landmark public art installation. FITZ & CO’s efforts in the promotion of Event Horizon spanned the spectrum of public relations from crafting press materials and providing crisis management, to organizing a Mayoral press conference attended by numerous New York City Officials and key members of the international and New York City press core. FITZ & CO’s VIP Relations team developed and arranged a series of private walking tours of the exhibition with top New York City museum board of trustee and collecting that took place throughout the exhibition of Event Horizon.
Through strategic positioning and extensive outreach, FITZ & CO was able to secure coverage of Event Horizon with international, art, and New York City metro publications including: ARTNews, Artinfo, Bloomberg.com, Conde Nast Traveler, Interior Design, New York Daily News, New York Post, Sculpture Magazine, The Architect's Newspaper, The Art Newspaper, The Financial Times, The Guardian, The New York Observer, The New York Times, The New York Times Style Magazine, Time Out New York / Hong Kong, USA Today, and more. Highlights of broadcast coverage secured include: ABC News, BBC News, FOX-5, CBS News, CBS Sunday Morning, NBC-Channel 14, NY1, PBS Sunday Arts, Reuters, in addition to prime coverage on New York City’s Taxi TV.
On March 14, 2011, Madison Square Park Conservancy's Mad. Sq. Art will receive the prestigious U.S. Art Critics Association (AICA-USA) award for Event Horizon, "Best Exhibition in a Public Space in 2010".
In Fall 2010 and Spring 2011, FITZ & CO worked with Madison Square Park Conservancy on the announcement and promotion of an installation by Jim Campbell, Scattered Light. The project received an enormous level of both critical and social media. Currently, FITZ & CO is promoting Mad. Sq. Art's upcoming projects; City of Nature, a film by artist Kota Ezawa on view from March 31- May 15, 2011, and Echo , the New York Public Art debut of Spanish artist Jaume Plensa, on view from May 5- August 14, 2011.
